Read Matthew 4:18-22
Imagine looking ahead and seeing the steps to the diving board—just you and the board. Now is the time to make your decision: Do you jump in? Over the next four weeks, we will look at what it means to plunge into the work of God’s kingdom, to be wholeheartedly sold out to God’s work. This is an invitation for you to live a life solely DEVOTED to God’s kingdom with all-in like faith.

Take a minute to recall times when you were faced with a choice: “Should I jump in or watch from the edge?” What did you do in those situations? Why? Which response comes more easily to you?

I think that if vision is casted, and I am on board with the purpose of “jumping in” it is pretty easy to jump. I don’t tend to be a “watch from the edge” kind of guy. If I look and I don’t like what I see, I just keep moving.

I feel like if Jesus were to have called me, I would have asked him, “what for” and if he gave a convincing argument, I would have dropped my nets. If he didn’t, I wouldn’t have hung around just to see what wads happening. All in or all out.

Like Michael, if the mission make sense and is lead well, I’m “jumping in”. I have never been a good observer. I think God is always calling us to be a people of action. Over 100,000 people drive by our building every week. Individually, we encounter 150 people every week. Have you every wondered how we can reach the people in these group who are far from God? It starts by being DEVOTED and Jumping In.

Being “all-in” is like having the faith of a child. I remember when my son was standing on the end of a diving board at a friend’s pool. He was terrified to jump in the deep end (he wasn’t a great swimmer). I kept reassuring him it would be fine and I would be there. You know what? He jumped in and loved it! Once he did it, he was all-in, all the time! It was something he didn’t ever want to stop doing! We need to be just like this – all-in, all the time, without stopping. We have the constant assurance that God will be there the whole time with us!

I took swimming lessons as a kid and I remember the diving board being a huge obstacle for me. In fact, I was so terrified to take those three steps and jump off that I even flunked an entire set of lessons. Man, that board had me defeated. As I walk through my Christian life though, it’s amazing how God has always honored the times I’ve “jumped in.” In fact, those times are when I’ve learned the most about God and gained more understanding of who he is. It’s almost like without taking risks and steps, we just drift away from God. Our faith can only grow as we jump in.

Definitely agree that without taking risks and steps we tend to drift from God. What helps me jump in is when someone calls me to greater commitment. Something inside of me wants to answer the bell, especially for a strong need that’s not being met. And when I see others walking their talk in truly sacrificial ways, I am inspired to do the same. There is something so moving about a community putting it all on the line for Jesus.

I once had a dear friend who pastors a church team me this important lesson… Faith is spelled R-I-S-K.
