Read Luke 5:17-26 Imagine their frustration. Their friend is paralyzed but the crowds prevent them from reaching Jesus. They are faced with a decision: Do they leave because of the barriers or do they pursue Jesus’ healing, even if it takes them on the roof of a stranger’s home? We must make that decision for ourselves as well. When we commit to following Jesus, we must follow him every step of the way, through all of the obstacles.
What are the barriers that block you from reaching Jesus? How could you break through these barriers?
I am guilty of letting the fear of “making a scene” or “inconveniencing” someone else stop me from pursuing a goal. But isn’t my mission more important than being embarrassed? If the person I’m “inconveniencing” also sees the importance of my goal- wouldn’t they be happy to be accommodating? When I really think about it, the only person who really gets in the way of my mission, is me!

Worry is a big obstacle for me. It’s easy to let things jump in the way and worry about them – sometimes to the point I don’t sleep or eat. It’s taken a commitment to learn to focus on God and meditate on His Word. I don’t need to worry because He already has it taken care of for me.!

I can be so uncertain about what I’m really being called to do. I think the way through this is simply to pray more and give God more opportunities to speak to me.

I read a good thought recently: Sometimes “deliver us from evil..” means deliver us from our own heart and its desires.
To break through my own barriers to Jesus, I just keep praying and working on dismantling bad habits of thought and action that stop me from being all in for God.
