Read Hebrews 11:8-19
Vision gives power to our lives. The book of Hebrews an entire chapter of heroes and heroines who followed God’s vision with their faith even if they never saw the vision
with their eyes. Because they pursued God’s vision, God secured that vision for them.
When we see the destination, we can be DEVOTED to the work of God and enjoy the faithfulness of God to the fullest; just like Abraham.

When have you experienced the power of a trustworthy vision that inspired you to action? Do you believe God can do that again today?

God is the heavenly father who gives his children fish instead of snakes. Jesus wants us to have an abundant life. With God, there is life, liberty and the land of opportunity.

Verses 14-16 reminded me that we are not home yet. If I was lost I would be Devoted to get home. How much more Devoted should I be to helping others who are lost find a home?

I was left a voice mail over 12 years ago from a recruiter about a job in Connecticut I was going to delete it but I felt God telling me to let my wife listen to it. The reason I was going to delete it was because I knew she wouldn’t even consider it, boy was I wrong! After listening to it she asked if I was going to peruse it, I did and got the job moving my family out of Michigan where all our relatives lived. Long story short our time in Connecticut was a time of great spiritual growth for both my wife and I.

What a great story. Twelve years ago I was graduating and looking forward to accepting a job out of state. But the day I was going to make the phone call I got tied up in a church meeting. When I got home I had an e-mail out of the blue from an old acquaintance that his company in town was hiring. It was the hardest decision of my life because I really wanted to pursue my dreams elsewhere, but I was feeling called and challenged to grow with the community here. Staying altered the course of my life, changed my dreams, and made my faith realer than ever. It taught me that where God leads, God will definitely provide.

Isn’t it bizarre to think about the long line of spiritual forefathers that you don’t even know about who are somehow tied to you by some choice they made in faith? Will heaven be some strange reunion with our birth family and our spiritual family too? What am I doing now that increases the likelyhood that someone will be able to trace their spiritual genealogy back to me? My own vision is so short sighted, but God can use our faithfulness to leave a legacy.

My grandfather was a country pastor. Never a big church, not a flashy man, and I remember his sermons as simple and conversational – not the kind to wow a crowd. He was a quiet, faithful person and a praying person. The Gospel is simple, he would say, and we shouldn’t complicate it. Grandpa died when I was 17. Though I loved him very much, still I was surprised at the sheer number of people who not only showed up for his visitation & funeral, but the stories they told, over and over again, about how God used my grandpa to change / “save” their lives, their marriages, and their churches. It was so obvious, knowing him as I did, that he used whatever talent and opportunity he had to point straight to Christ, and that was what made the difference in peoples’ lives. It really sunk in, that it was not about “flash” or what kind of talent you do or don’t feel you have – it’s all about Jesus and obeying his call, day and and out, down the long road of life.

Following a trustworthy vision still takes courage and a willingness to risk part of our lives. But from reading Hebrews and personally seeing how God has blessed people through others who went all in for Him, I truly believe our leaps of faith are used in ways that transcend our lives.
