Read Luke 22:39-44 “Do you know what you’re doing?” is a favorite question of moms everywhere. As kids (and as adults) we often find ourselves deep into something with no idea what we are doing or how we got there. Jesus knew what he was doing. His great devotion of sacrificing himself for us was not a mistake. He knew that he gave up everything for our sake, and he chose to do the will of God.
God asks all of us to make that kind of know-what-we-are-doing devotion. God does not trick us into following him. God wants us to think, decide, and declare for ourselves, “Not my will, but yours be done.”
Knowing the right thing to do is one thing and doing it every day is another. I think Jesus understood how challenging this was, to consciously do what we know is right every day. Jesus was so wise to withdraw to pray and direct us to pray that we would not to enter into temptation.
